COVID-19 has changed the way we all go about our daily life. While we as adults are experiencing something we never thought would happen during our lifetime, our children are feeling the effects of this as well. Children across the country have had their normal routine shaken in a way no one thought possible. As kids who didn’t have the dream of being told there was no school, but no one ever dreamed it would be like this. Schools are closed, kids are missing out on opportunities that only come once in a lifetime (graduations, proms, sporting events, and other school related activities). Not only are schools closed, but kids are forced to stay in their yards, with little to no physical contact with the outside world. When taking into account the school closures and the fact kids have to stay near their homes and can’t interact with their friends, this is a challenging time for kids. We see it on our kids’ faces every day and as much as we as parents want to make things better for our kids, we are limited to what we can do. We are handicapped by the things we can do, all we can do is try to make their day as enjoyable as possible, while also accomplishing all of the other things we have to do as parents.
This is why we would like to do something to help kids cope during these times of uncertainty. To do this we will be giving out electronics and snack boxes to 50 kids to provide them with an outlet to continue their education; by giving them another tool to access learning opportunities, whether it be reading, educational apps and games, or anything else that can stimulate their minds. While also providing them a tool to help them have fun as well. We understand while the purpose of this is to provide another tool to help kids learn, they will be used for other communication activities as well. In this current situation that is understandable, everyone needs something that can help them escape the current reality, if only for a moment. We also encourage parents to take an active part in the use of the tablets with your children. You can read together, play games, both educational and “fun” games, things that can help bring you closer together as families during this time. Things will change for the better and return to “The New Normal,” but in the meantime we will do our part to help.
Unfortunately, we have a limited supply of tablets, provided by generous donors, that prevents us from giving one to every child. So, in order to ensure we are able to help as many children we will also be giving out a limited number of Google Home Mini Speakers and headphones. The tablets will be on a first come, first serve basis. After the tablets have all been giving out, we will be giving out the speakers and then the headphones. However, if you would like for your child to receive the speakers instead of the tablet select the option for the speakers. The speakers will be handled the same way as the tablets, once they are exhausted your child will receive a tablet or a pair of headphones, depending on what is available. After successful registration you will receive an email confirming which item you will be receiving.
In addition to either a tablet, a speaker, or a pair of headphones, each child will be receiving a snack box filled with snacks, as well as some school supplies. The items will be inside of our custom Kits 4 Kits box, that your children will be able to continue to use as a place to store some of their most prized possessions.
We understand these are trying times for everyone, so we just want to do our part to help as many people as we possibly can. Our goal is to bring a smile to each childs face and provide a tool that will not only help stimulate their creativity, but to also bring families closer together during this difficult time.
Signing up is easy, just go to the registration page and fill out the registration form. In order to help as many families as possible, FAMILIES ARE LIMITED TO ONE OF THE FOLLOWING PER HOUSEHOLD: a Kindle Fire, a Google Home Mini Speaker, or a pair of headphones in addition to the snack box and the school supplies. In addition to filling out the registration form, like and share our page on Facebook, to help spread the word about not only this event, but our future events where will be giving back to the community that has given us so much.
